Abraham Claude, a clockmaker, moved to Annapolis, Maryland, from Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1763 or 1764. He married Nancy Stevens on May 19, 1775, and they had three surviving sons: John (b. September 26, 1780), Dennis (1782-1863), and Abram (1784-1814). John served in the United States Army during the War of 1812 and was stationed at Plattsburgh, New York, during the war's final year. Dennis, a doctor, served in both houses of the Maryland Legislature, as mayor of Annapolis (1828-...
